An online petition has been started asking Apple to include a Firewire Port on the new MacBooks.
The petition reads:
To: Apple Inc.
We all love your products, Apple Inc.! But your recently refreshed line of consumer notebooks lacks the possibility to plug in digital audio and video equipment as well as fast mass storage devices. Therefore, we pledge to purchase a new MacBook or MacBook Air if you, the inventor of FireWire technology, would be so kind to bring back FireWire ports to those products.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned

It's really a sad situation because I am a perfect example of someone that this lack of firewire hurts. My work has multiple firewire mass storage devices that I need access to. My iBook is getting very old now and I was excited to upgrade to the new MacBook but this will keep me from being able to. I can't really afford a MacBook Pro nor do I want the increased 15" screen size (footprint.) The adapters (firewire to USB) are garbage and not reliable. If you've never tried LARGE file transfers using one, you won't know what I'm talking about. Anyway, now I'm stuck to look for a nice used previous MacBook. :(

Never mind, I thought we were talking about the Macbook Pro but we aren't. Still why not USB to firewire adapter?

Can I ask the obvious question: Why don't you just get an adapter for the Firewire 800?
