Apple has reportedly signed an agreement 'with a major global distributor' to make the iPhone 3GS available to global prepaid markets, according to Jefferies analyst Peter Misek. He thinks the wholesale price of the phone will be repriced from $375 down to the $200-$250, reports Forbes.
Misek also contends that sell side estimates for June quarter iPhone build plans are too low as a major South American production plan is not included in their calculations. (The plant in question, he says, is co-owned by governments and local players with Hon Hai holding a minority stake.) He estimates total calendar Q2 iPhone builds of 28 million to 30 million, ahead of the Street consensus in the 26 million to 28 million range.
Presumably, Apple's push into the prepaid market would take place around this release of its next generation iPhone this fall.
Most Asian countries have all handsets available unlocked on prepaid. And when it comes to south Asian countries like india, contracts don't exist anyways , so ppl prefer going for prepaid devices since there is not commitment
I don't understand people.I mean who buys a prepaid phones this days ?
