Fring Announces World's First Mobile Video Calls Over Internet

Posted November 30, 2009 at 11:45pm by iClarified
Fring has announced the world's first mobile video calls over Internet. Currently video calls only work using Nokia handsets and a Skype account; however, Fring has promised the feature will come to other "popular" platforms soon.

Only a week after releasing our Android version, we're very excited to announce the healthy arrival of the world's first mobile video calls over internet! (with fring and Skype video calls :-) )

Now for the first time ever fringsters can make and receive internet video calls from mobile devices (for free!), picking up your fring and Skype video calls from the road, and seeing the person you’re talking to from your mobile phone.

fring video is currently supported on Nokia touch (such as X6, N97 mini,N97, 5800), N95, N95 8G and N82 devices.

Take a look at the video demonstration below... Hopefully the iPhone will be next.

This isnt actually true, I was using 2 way video VOIP about 3 years ago with a Latvian company http://www.tivi.com/ when I had my nokia n80 who were the only company then doing video VOIP. Its actually not much use, but can be fun in "some" circumstances ;)..

What would be the point of this on an iPhone? To video yourself you'd have to point the screen away from yourself, which then means you can't see the screen yourself. Useless until Apple include a front facing camera on an iPhone

Easy, just put a mirror behind the iphone.

Even without a front facing camera you could show the other person where you are and what you are seeing. You could also have them turn the iPhone on themselves to see them. Definitely not perfect but better then nothing. Also a third party camera could easily be attached to the dock connector.

To make this work on the 3gs, an attachment would probably be needed which would provide a mirror of some sort. Of course, this is not the ideal solution as a front facing camera. But we know how Apple works and they probably will put it in there next iphone.
