A new sensor technology promises to improve camera phone performance by more than four times, according to Wired.
Soon your cellphone camera may become good enough to use for wedding photos, thanks to an image sensor developed by InVisage Technologies.
We have all heard Gee, I wish the camera on my iPhone was better, says InVisages President and CEO Jess Lee. But the heart of the problem is in the heart of the camera, which is the sensor.
The new technology uses quantum dots instead of silicon which is much more efficient at absorbing light. It also allows the circuits to be placed underneath the quantum film, where they dont block the light.
This is entirely different from the type of image sensors that we have right now, says Tom Hausken, director with market research firm Strategies Unlimited. Usually you see incremental improvements in sensor design, but these guys have made a a significant change in the process.

I like the palm mounted camera idea.
Just what the market needs. :)

Whoever wrote this article doesn't understand the first thing about photography.
Good quality images are a function of three things, IN THIS ORDER.
1/ Quality of the lens
2/ Size of the sensor
3/ Quality of the sensor
Your camera phone will still have a crap lens that is tiny in size, so will still take crap photos. They may be better than they are now, especially in low light, but good enough for a wedding, never going to happen.
