Steve Jobs has responded to a customer concerned about Apple's censorship by stating that 'folks who want porn can buy an Android phone'.
----- Steve, I was converted to Apple products with the announcement of the iPhone 3G. (My friends have been trying to convince me for years.) Since then Ive purchased 4 iPhones, 2 computers, several routers, and miscellaneous other items. Unfortunately, Im really starting to have a philosophical issue with your company. It appears that more and more Apple is determining for its consumers what content they should be able to receive. For instance, the blocking of Mark Fiores comic app (due to being political satire) or blocking of what Apple considers to be porn.
Im all for keeping porn out of kids hands. Heck Im all for ensuring that I dont have to see it unless I want to. But thats what parental controls are for. Put these types of apps into categories and allow them to be blocked by their parents should they want to.
Apples role isnt moral police Apples role is to design and produce really cool gadgets that do what the consumer wants them to do.
Thanks for listening
-Matthew -----
Fiores app will be in the store shortly. That was a mistake. However, we do believe we have a moral responsibility to keep porn off the iPhone. Folks who want porn can buy and Android phone.

i highly doubt porn is the sole reason people are rushing to Android, my dear Jobsy.
as for the "i don't want porn on my iphone" crowd, NOBODY is forcing you to get it. it's a simple case of "if you don't like it? don't look at/read/buy it" don't let common sense get in your way, though..

It's the whole God complex thing with jobs. Android is THE competition and Devs like it for it's openess and it's openess is a threat in jobs eyes. Plus how fast Android has grown in just as little as a year now.

@Razor1, you forgot that the App Store is owned by Apple.. not yours or anyone elses' - so that gives Apple the right to say that they don't want no p0rn on the iPhone.. thanks..

I also agree with Steve. He's not telling you what you can and can't see. If you want porn on your Iphone then re-encode a video. You can't expect them to sell porn apps through THEIR app store for use on THEIR devices.

You bought the hardware not the software that it's running on. You can always go to a website that is optimize for the iPhone and stream it or download to your computer and transfer. You still have options just not an app for it.

It's not about porn its about Apple thinking they have the right to tell me what I can or cannot consume on my media devices, and make no mistake the iPhone/iPod Touch and iPad are media consumption devices.
This is the final straw for me, I own an iPad (typing this on it), an iPhone, Mac Pro and Macbook Air and Im so sick of Apple censoring and denying approval of good Apps (Google Voice says hi), their whole closed system totalitarian approach is killing my respect for the company.
Unless things change very soon, I'm switching to an Android based phone, Google Tablet and when the time comes to replace my Mac Pro in a few years I'll be seriously looking into alternatives.
I would have given up on the iPhone long ago if it wasn't for the ability to Jailbreak it.

Ok, yes Apple/Steve Jobs has serious control issues and I hope the end users start to see this problem. BUT the fact that Apple doesn't want porn in the app store is no different than cable tv outlawing nudity on it. Apple has you supply your credit card info inorder to gain access to the app store, not many people know how to otherwise. So inorder for their kids to download also they have to use their parents information, therefor it isn't necessary or sensible for their to be porn in the app store when people can do so via Safari either on their iPhones or Pc's. It's not really a control issue but more like Apple decided on morals and company image. But hey if you want to get rid of your iPad because you, like we all know Apple isn't changing ANY time soon I can give you my info and you can give me your iPad.
