Apple is preparing a new set of artificial intelligence features for iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, bringing new writing tools, natural language automation, and custom wallpapers to the iPhone and iPad.
According to Bloomberg, the company is developing a native grammar checker similar to Grammarly. The tool appears in a translucent menu at the bottom of the screen, showing original text right next to suggested edits. Users can approve changes one by one, accept them all at once, or pause the tool and jump between flagged sections.
To make these AI writing features easier to find, a "Write With Siri" toggle reportedly sits directly above the keyboard. Activating Siri inside a text field can also trigger a "Help Me Write" prompt. Both additions build on the existing Writing Tools suite and are expected to arrive alongside the broader Siri overhaul planned for iOS 27.
Shortcuts is also getting a major update. Instead of manually linking actions together to build a routine, users will reportedly be able to generate automations just by typing out what they want. In current test builds, the system takes a simple text description and automatically creates the shortcut on the device.
On the customization front, AI-powered wallpaper generation is heading to the Lock Screen and Home Screen. The tool is built directly into the wallpaper picker and runs on Image Playground, which is already slated for a visual refresh and upgraded models in the next operating system.
The new features arrive as Apple faces growing competition in consumer AI from companies like Google and Samsung. Google recently rolled out its own Gemini Intelligence tools for Android, including generative widgets and smarter dictation features.
