Apple is preparing a sweeping redesign of Siri in iOS 27, transforming the assistant into an always-on agent with a chatbot-style interface and deeper integration across the operating system, according to a new report from Bloomberg.
Siri itself is undergoing a major rebuild. The assistant is shifting from a traditional voice tool into a more persistent experience capable of accessing personal data and taking actions across apps. The redesign brings Siri into the Dynamic Island, the on-screen element Apple introduced in 2022. When invoked via the wake word or the power button, a large pill-shaped animation appears at the top of the display.
Swiping down from the top of the screen triggers a new system search featuring a "Search or Ask" bar inside the Dynamic Island, complete with a microphone button for voice input. Tapping this bar lets users switch between Siri and third-party offerings like ChatGPT or Gemini.
Users can also swipe down on a transparent results card to enter a chatbot conversation mode that resembles a text message thread. The layout includes in-line mini app cards displaying relevant data such as weather conditions, upcoming calendar appointments, and stored notes.
The update also brings AI-powered open web search capabilities, enabling detailed answers, bulleted summaries, and large image results for general knowledge questions.
As indicated previously, Apple is preparing a standalone Siri app. The app will display past conversations in a collection of tall rounded cards, alongside a dedicated search bar for older queries and a clean prompt field labeled "Ask Siri" alongside buttons for voice input, document uploads, and images.
The Siri overhaul arrives as Apple faces growing pressure from rivals like Google and OpenAI to deliver more capable AI features. Earlier today, Google announced Android 17 and Gemini Intelligence, introducing new AI features with tighter app integration across its ecosystem.
