RedSn0w Updated to Remove USBMuxd Requirement for Untether

Posted December 31, 2010 at 12:49am by iClarified
RedSn0w .9.7b4 has been released and it removes the usbmuxd requirement to untether your jailbreak.

Unfortunately, this release is Mac only and can only be used by those with their iOS 4.2b3 SHSH blobs saved. A Windows version will be released soon.

The fourth beta is now available (testers ONLY please!). Starting with this version, redsn0w no longer requires you to install and run a separate program for the usbmux (this was a non-trivial procedure for many). It’s okay to keep that program running if you normally use it for ssh anyway. We also think we’ve fixed a race condition in the GUI that was causing redsn0w to crash during the “Preparing JB Monte Files” step. Nothing at all has changed on the iPhone side (where the main issues are still just Bluetooth and Skype).

You can find our instructions on how to untether your jailbreak here. You can download the new beta here. Make sure to restore if you want to reapply the untether a second time.

I have successfully done it on my iPhone4. Thank's a lot to Dev Team for the Redsn0w and iClarified for the good tutorial. I still need the general release of Redsn0w for my iPad, since it comes with iOS 4.2.1. Happy New Year!

Know what REALLY sucks about this .. IT DOE'S NOT WORK USING VMWARE !!! I have Snow Leopard 10.6.4 installed .. will go through the processes OK until redsn0w states that its waiting for the iPhone to reboot .. and just sits there .. and my iPhone doesn't reboot .. BUMMER :( ... so now that we have waited this long for a MAC release .. are we going to have to wait the same amount of time for a Windows release ?

1st - This is for Mac's only, not Virtual Mac's. 2nd - This is a Beta Test. 3rd - just wait for official public release and stop crying.
