AT&T to Force New Customers to Use Its Mobile Share Data Plans

Posted October 11, 2013 at 10:36pm by iClarified
AT&T has announced that only its Mobile Share data plans will be available to new customers.

Beginning Oct. 25, we’re streamlining the plans we offer new customers. Our customers have expressed an overwhelming preference for simplified options that allow them to share data across multiple devices. New customers will have the choice of any of our Mobile Share plans, which start as low as $50 a month for a basic phone or $70 a month for a smartphone – both of which include unlimited talk and text and 300MB of data that can be shared. In 95 percent of the new customer scenarios, Mobile Share offers the same or better price with additional value.

For current customers, there is no change. They can choose to switch to Mobile Share, or they can continue to enjoy, upgrade or downgrade their existing plan. No customers will be forced to switch plans if they’d like to stick with what they have – even when upgrading to a new device.

I spy a blatant lie. I am currently an AT&T customer, on a grandfathered unlimited data plan. I am trying to upgrade my two telephones -- even willing to buy the phones, outright -- and I'm being told I must choose a new data plan. I've been fighting this for nearly six weeks. My next step is to file a complaint.

Why metropcs? verizon, sprint, or even t-mobile is looking good just about now...

^hahaha adding verizon to that list. Guarentee verizon does the same thing in a little bit. These 2 always do. People are annoyed because they constantly price gouge the consumers and in doing so are offering less and less. Price goes up for less service and a lower ceiling.

That's when it's time for the citizens to make a move. in my country about a million people marched the streets some to the parliament building the rest at big cities on grassy era protested about the cost of living they stayed there in tents at first after a few month it turned into wood shacks and tents with big kitchens and portable bathrooms and because election was coming up nobody wanted to be the one to tell them to f**k off infect many people from the government kept visiting pretending to listen to the problems, also every night they had concerts by famous people that joined the protest and in the mean time there was one minister that nobody really knew nothing about him and he passed laws that changed the cellular and cable TV industry up side down. what he did was he told to the 3 big cell providers that they where ripping the citizens off for way to long and now he is giving licenses to 9 new cell providers and till they build there own antenna arrays they will be allowed to use theirs! Plus no more contracts ( cell or cable TV ) and he past the laws so fast that the big Cell providers didn't have time to stop it. What it did was that over night we woke up to new deals and every day they where getting better, it started with $30 everything unlimited, today me myself I'm getting 6 month free everything unlimited including live TV and radio kind of like pandora and unlimited calls to 45 countries, after the 6 free month it's $13 a month! It didn't start that cheap but because there is no contracts any more I moved within 6 month 4 times to different cell providers my phone number moved with me and it was all done on the phone they send you your new Sim and only after you get it they disconnect you from your older Cell provider , any way it was crazy now I'm getting ready to move again because one cell provider offers 2 Simms for the price of one ( one for the cell phone & one for the tablet ) and I got an iPad so it's a great deal for me. what I'm trying to say is that it was like America in the 60th the people do have the power it's just that we got lazy but I've seen in my own eyes how one girl on Facebook started this protest and changed a country! And by the way that minister that I was talking about, today everybody knows his name just by the laws he passed he saved us thousands of $$$ a year!!
I'm confused...

What I don't understand is why the price would change depending on what sort of device you're using (i.e. "basic phone" vs. "smart phone")... I mean, if the cost is for a certain amount of data, what difference does it make what you're using?

Exactly!!!! I am grandfathered as well!!!! $30 for "unlimited" data.... but somewhere after 3GB my speeds drop to from 4G to 2G!!! I called and asked why and the rep told me because there is not enough data to go around..... REALLY??? i have used 5GB of data a month only TWICE in 7 years of ATT service, back then it was Cingular.... I am done....... Buying the iphone 5S next week total price and sayonara to ATT....
