Apple is Testing New M2 Max and M2 Ultra Macs Ahead of WWDC [Report]

Apple is testing new M2 Max and M2 Ultra desktop Macs ahead of its Worldwide Developers Conference next week, according to a new report from Bloomberg.

The new Mac models are labelled Mac14,13 and Mac 14,14 and could be replacement models for the M1 Mac Studio.

The new computers are part of an effort to overhaul the Mac line and attract consumers during a sluggish stretch for the computer industry. Powerful desktop models remain key to Apple's appeal among professional users, such as video editors or graphic designers. The company also is just days away from WWDC, its annual gathering of developers who rely on such machines to build apps.


Bloomberg says the M2 Max device features eight high-performance cores, four efficiency cores, and 30 graphics cores. These are the same specs as the MacBook Pro with M2 Max. The particular machine spotted has 96GB of RAM and is running macOS 13.4.

The M2 Ultra device features 24 processing cores, doubling the performance of the M2 Max model. It has 16 high-performance cores and eight efficiency cores, as well as, 60 graphics cores. Configurations being tested have 64GB, 128GB, and 192GB of memory. Notably, the M2 Ultra chip will also be offered with a 76 graphics cores, doubling the number in the M2 Max chip.

Unfortunately, the two models being tested are not the long awaited new Mac Pro. The site believes that model is labeled 14,8.

In addition to these desktop models, Apple is widely expected to unveil its rumored 'Reality Pro' AR/VR headset, a new 15-inch MacBook Air, and operating system updates for iOS, iPadOS, tvOS, watchOS, and macOS.
