Here's When Apple is Expected to Introduce Its New M4 Macs

Apple appears set to launch an accelerated M4 update to its Mac lineup, according to a new report from Mark Gurman. The company just released its first Macs with M3 processors about five months ago, so rumors of M4 processor update may seem premature; however, Gurman believes the company is working towards an annual refresh cycle for Mac.

A big focus for the chips will be supporting on-device AI. There are purportedly three main variations of the M4, including a base version dubbed Donan, higher-end versions codename Brava that will replace the M3 Pro and M3 Max, and finally an M4 Ultra version that is dubbed Hidra. Notably, Apple has yet to release an M3 Ultra and it's now unclear if we will see that chip at WWDC 2024. Gurman says the chip exists internally, but Apple could choose to skip it in favor of moving right to the M4 Ultra.

It's also said that the M4 update will be the first time all Apple's devices get the latest M-series processor. The Mac Pro missed the M1 update, the iMac missed the M2 update, and Gurman says at least some of Apple's high-end desktops will not get the M3 update.

Here's the rumored release schedule for M4...

● Low-end 14-inch MacBook Pro with M4 - End of 2024.
● 24-inch iMac with M4 - End of 2024
● 14-inch and 16-inch high-end MacBook Pros with M4 Pro/Max - Between End of 2024 and Early 2025
● Mac mini with M4 and M4 Pro - Between the End of 2024 and Early 2025
● 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Airs - Spring 2025
● Mac Studio with high-end M4 chip - Middle of 2025.
● Mac Pro with M4 Ultra chip - Second Half of 2025

I'm for better tech and improvements but I'm not really a fan of apple constantly coming out with these chips one year after the next. It de-values the processor and makes you feel like you're wasting your money spending so much on a computer to find out that their coming out with a new one the next year.
