Apple appears set to bring OLED technology to the iPad mini ahead of the iPad Air, with a new leak suggesting the smaller tablet is taking priority in the display supply chain.
According to a post on Weibo from leaker Instant Digital, the iPad mini will transition to OLED first, while there is currently "no movement" regarding a similar upgrade for the iPad Air. This suggests Apple is staggering the rollout of the display technology across its tablet lineup rather than updating the mid-range tier simultaneously.
The claim aligns with a recent Bloomberg report which indicated that an OLED iPad mini could arrive as early as next year. That device, reportedly codenamed J510, may see a price increase due to the higher cost of the panel. Apple recently transitioned its high-end tablets to tandem OLED with the launch of the M5 iPad Pro in October.
While the iPad Air is expected to stick with an LCD screen for its next iteration, reports indicate it will still receive a performance boost. Apple is said to be planning an updated iPad Air with the M4 chip for release in early 2026.
