Apple has successfully raised its target of $3 million for The Global Fund, capping off a holiday campaign that donated proceeds from Apple Pay transactions to the fight against AIDS.
The organization (RED) confirmed the achievement in a social media post, thanking customers for helping reach the milestone. The initiative ran from November 28 through December 7, with Apple pledging a $5 donation for every purchase made using Apple Pay at physical Apple Stores, in the app, or on the company's website.
The funds support the Global Fund's efforts to provide healthcare in vulnerable communities, specifically targeting the fight to end AIDS. The campaign highlights a 19-year partnership between the two organizations. According to (RED), global efforts have reduced AIDS-related deaths by 70 percent since their peak in 2004, though challenges remain in protecting adolescent girls and young women in sub-Saharan Africa.
The fundraising window covered the busiest shopping week of the year, including Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It also coincided with Apple's own four-day shopping event, which offered gift cards with select purchases. That promotion likely helped drive the heavy transaction volume at Apple Stores and apple.com needed to reach the goal so quickly.
