LG Unveils CLOiD AI Home Robot That Can Cook, Clean, and Do Laundry

LG Electronics is taking the smart home concept literally with the LG CLOiD, an AI-enabled home robot designed to handle physical chores and coordinate connected appliances. Scheduled to be demonstrated publicly for the first time at CES 2026, the robot is central to LG's "Zero Labor Home" vision, which aims to reduce the time and physical effort required for everyday tasks like cooking and cleaning.



Rather than sitting on a counter like a smart display, the LG CLOiD is built for movement and manipulation. The robot features a head unit, a torso with two articulated arms, and a wheeled base that uses autonomous navigation technology derived from LG's robot vacuums. The arms are the standout feature. Each has seven degrees of freedom to mirror the range of motion of a human arm, while the hands use five independently actuated fingers to grasp objects and operate household tools.


The head of the robot functions as a mobile AI home hub. It houses a display, speakers, cameras, sensors, and a dedicated chipset that serves as the robot's brain. LG says the system uses voice-based generative AI and visual input to communicate with users through speech and on-screen "facial expressions," learn household environments, and understand lifestyle patterns.

At the core of LG CLOiD is what the company calls "Physical AI." This combines a Vision Language Model (VLM), which converts images and video into structured understanding, with a Vision Language Action (VLA) model that translates visual and verbal input into physical movement. According to LG, this allows the robot to carry out complex, multi-step tasks such as retrieving milk from a refrigerator, placing food into an oven, or starting and managing laundry cycles after occupants leave the home.

The announcement arrives as Apple is reportedly exploring its own home robotics and smart home hardware. Supply chain reports suggest Apple is working on a tabletop robot with a moving display, as well as a stationary smart home hub expected to debut in 2026. While Apple's reported efforts focus on displays and centralized intelligence, LG is pushing toward a mobile robot capable of direct physical interaction within the home.



Alongside the robot, LG also introduced LG Actuator AXIUM, a new brand of robotic actuators designed for service robots. These actuators integrate motors, drives, and reducers into compact modules that function as a robot's joints. LG says its experience building appliance motors has enabled it to develop actuators that are lightweight, compact, and capable of delivering high torque, which is critical for scalable production of household robots.


The announcement follows LG's recent reveal of a new Gallery TV aimed at Samsung's The Frame. LG will showcase the CLOiD robot in real-world scenarios at its CES booth in Las Vegas from January 6 to 9.
