To fix iMessage, turn it off and back on again, maybe even reset your network settings. :) Worked for me!

After updating to ios 5.1 my imsg on iphone 4S is not working so guys dont update to 5.1 unless they fix this error

NEVER use a stock firmware with a JB device unless DevTeam say so, it's been said since DevTeam first applied JBs, it hasn't changed!
