Starwood Hotels has announced that guests arriving at the Aloft Hotel in Manhattan or Silicon Valley will soon be able to walk past check-in and enter their rooms using their iPhone as a room key.
SPG will roll out a revolutionary new program that puts the power of your room key on your mobile device. Soon Starwood Preferred Guest members can open their hotel room from their SPG App — no extra baggage. Consider this one more key to a better stay.
The WSJ reports that guests will receive a message on the Starwood app that contains a virtual key which will unlock their hotel room door with a tap or twist of their phone via Bluetooth. iPhone 4S or newer devices and smartphones running Android 4.3 or newer are compatible.
"We believe this will become the new standard for how people will want to enter a hotel," says Frits van Paasschen, Starwood's CEO. "It may be a novelty at first, but we think it will become table stakes for managing a hotel."

Interesting, 2 hotels at the opposite ends of the social class.
You never have to go to the front desk to confirm who you are.
