Apple's long rumored 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models will enter mass production in the third and fourth quarters of 2021, according to new report from DigiTimes.

Prior to WWDC, the site said the new 14-inch model wouldn't ship until late 2021 and the new 16-inch model wouldn't ship until early 2022. The delay appears to the be supply of mini-LED displays.

The outside world originally speculated that Apple would release the new MacBook Pro at WWDC, but in the end it disappointed many fans. The supply chain reported that the main reason for the Mini LED yield rate was not up to expectations, so shipments could not reach the original estimated volume, but it was launched in the second half of the year. The plans for the two new MacBook Pros remain unchanged, and the supply chain will also be ready for mass production from the third quarter.

Like on the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro, mini-LED will greatly improve the brightness and battery life of the MacBook Pro. Notably, DigiTimes also says the notebooks will become more affordable.

The supply chain pointed out that Apple’s new models will be equipped with Mini LEDs, in addition to higher brightness and lower energy consumption. Paired with an Arm-based processor, Apple’s MacBook Pro will have higher battery life, lighter size and lighter weight. The price is more affordable, and it will definitely become a popular model in the second half of the year.
