As rumored Apple has just released iOS 4.0.1 for the iPhone. As usual we recommend NOT updating until more details about the firmware are discovered.
Also it is VERY important that you have your SHSH blobs for 4.0 saved. Apple will stop signing 4.0 in just a few minutes/hours.
Follow one of these tutorials ASAP: - Windows - Mac
It's thought that the 4.0.1 update will only change how the signal bars are displayed and possibly resolve some bugs. New features will likely be reserved for iOS 4.1. There is no baseband update in 4.0.1 so it will be unlockable.

Yeah, I wonder why iPhone doesn't have an updater or something, so you just download 1MB file and update OS, even in the street (not connected to iTunes)

Apple still hasn't resolved the issue?! This has gone too far. I better hear a recall tomorrow or I'm going to loose my faith in the company I have loved to so many years. I've noticed most companies reach a curtain threshold in size before they either 1. Become corrupt 2. Become Careless or 3. Just change company period.
It's going to be sad watching Apple and our pride in the company slip down a slippery slope.

Use Tinyumbrella to save your SHSH, you don't need to be jailbroken, but must hurry before apple stops signing 4.0

This is very bad news for me. I have a 3GS with T-Mobile and can't use 4.0 because a jailbreak/unlock is not out yet. That means I can't backup my blobs via anything, which in turn means I won't be able to use 4.0 when the jailbreak is ready because, by then, Apple would have stopped signing that firmware. That then means I'll be stuck on 3.1.3 for a quite while. Ugh, I almost want to switch to AT&T to end this nonsense!!!

That's exactly what Apple want you to do. Actually they are forcing you to buy a AT&T iPhone4, so they get a lot of money, simple business, they care about money, not about you.

If you are using 3GS and you want to upgrade to the 4OS, you can use sn0wbreeze to jailbreak and sn0wbreeze to unlock your iphone. Old and new bootrom are now supported. Check out on their website tho. I just did it yesterday and now i have my 3GS FW 5.11.7 6.4BL running on 4OS. Gluck

Signal is still lost on 4.0.1 on IPhone 4 grip of death! WTF is the point of this update?

James - July 15, 2010 at 3:08pm
Read the info. The point was simply to put the correct formula in the phone so it doesn't show a misleading 5 bars when you only have 3 or 4.
Any information on a 'fix' or whatever will be tomorrow during the press conference.

I have a 3G, so I have no problem with signal, so 4.01 looks really useless. Apple just care about selling iPhone 4, really sad, because this means I will lose iPhone4 support when iPhone 4s or 5 is out, so why I would buy a iPhone4 anyway if they will forget it in a year?
