Apple Cuts Fitness+ Jobs as It Rethinks the Service [Report]

Apple has cut a small number of jobs from its Fitness+ team as the company reassesses costs and priorities for the subscription workout service, according to the latest newsletter from Mark Gurman.

The layoffs took place this past week and affected a handful of employees, including staff who worked on the audio side of Fitness+. That includes content such as Time to Walk and Time to Run, which can be played from an Apple Watch without following a video workout.

New audio releases are expected to become less frequent following the cuts, though Apple isn’t currently planning to discontinue them.

The reductions reportedly are being viewed within the Fitness+ organization as the beginning of broader cost-cutting measures and potentially more significant changes to the service in the months and years ahead.

Apple has been reevaluating Fitness+, which is now overseen by services chief Eddy Cue and health chief Sumbul Desai. Gurman says he doesn’t believe the service is currently facing cancellation, but notes that its production costs, need for a steady stream of new content, and subscriber churn make it an area where Apple can reduce spending.

One possibility is a closer relationship between Fitness+ and Apple’s redesigned Health app. Gurman believes Apple could eventually integrate Fitness+ into Health now that the two operations are under the same leadership, though he does not report that such a move has been decided.

Apple is already preparing to add video clips to its revamped Health app to explain health topics and benchmarks. The company has said the redesigned app will arrive in a later software update, while early versions are currently being tested with developers and other beta participants in iOS 27.2 and iPadOS 27.2.
