Hey. I really need help from experts. I bought an Iphone 4 which was used on AT&T and now I want to use it with another carrier. It has 4.1.0 software and 2.10.04 version. The question is:
Is it possible to unlock (redsnow) my phone jailbreaking it to 4.3.3 using the custom file of this tutorial. Thank you very much in advance.

There is no .ipsw file to download... there is a 600+MB .zip file with no .ipsw files on it...
Redsnow wont recognize any of those .... =/

Hello! I run version 4.1 with baseband version 02.10.04. I saved with TinyUmbrella my SHSH.
I tried to jailbreak using pwnage tool (mac) 4.3.3 but it didn't work.
When I finish DFU mode with sucess and I try to restore Itunes with iPhone3,1_4.3.3_8J2_Custom_Restore.ipsw there is massage in Itunes This device isn't eligible for the requested build.
Please someone can help me?

I have current 4.3.3 firmware on my iPhone 4. Do I need to perform the restore step with the .ipsw files or can I simply move straight to a jailbreak with redsn0w_mac_0.9.6rc15?

What is the point of listing a new jailbreak and including comments that dont relate to it inn terms of currentness? I mean it came out last night and we have comments going back through several months. It makes no sense and now I have no signal after jailbreaking with pwnage, and im factory unlocked, then I jailbroke with rednsow and it didnt help, now I am factory restoring and will try again. This site used to actually care about the info it provided. Now it seems really sloppy like noone cares what the tutorials say. Sad state of affairs as one hacker after the other get high paying jobs with Apple to stop their work.

Mine won't jailbreak. I run version 4.3.2, updated using the method explained above. I do not really care for unlock at this moment. I run baseband version 02.10.04. Right now, besides the faulty signal strength indicator (never show anything but 1 bar) everything runs fine on my phone.
Once I try to run RedSn0w, it gives me an unexpected error. If I put it in DFU mode manually before running the tool, it says it's pushing limerain to the phone, then give me an unexpected error again. What is wrong? Anyone else running in the same error?
thanks for any tips.

Anyone else cannot restore 4.3.2 on their phone? I'm trying to upgrade from 4.2.1 to 4.3.2 even if I try full restore from iTunes, or custom restore, or DFU, I always get a damn error 1013. Any ideas?

The weird part, is even damn tinyumbrella fix does not work, nor a full iTunes restore. Scary... I'm tempted to call apple care at this point, could they know the phone was jailbroken before? The phone won't even boot!!!

Thanks Daniel, much appreciated. Unfortunately, my host file is backed up, and no entry to apple (I hate when software force name resolution). That didn't do it.
To add a twist to the story, I have 2 iPhones. I plugged my older iPhone, and iTuns still complained that a phone in restore mode was connected! iTunes actually displayed 2 phones connected to my dismay. Something is definitely going on. Ghost connection? New Apple "security feature" ?

* Open Finder
* Hold down COMMAND + SHIFT keys and press G
* Enter /private/etc/ in the field and press Go
* Find hosts file in the directory
* Drag the file to your desktop
* Open it in text editor
* Remove the line that has gs.apple.com entirely or put a # at the beginning of it to comment it out
* Save the file
* Drag it back to the /private/etc/ folder.
* Youd need to enter your username and password to authenticate the move

Loi,
I got all the way up to remove gs.apple.com and it does not allow me to save it. It gives me the following message. To view or change permissions, select the item in the Finder and choose File > Get Info.
I chose info and changed the permissions but it still does not allow me to save the file. Any ideas.
Thanks

I was able to get the jailbreak to work and restore from a backup of my phone previously jailbroken with 4.2.1:
Back up/sync phone with iTunes
Then follow the instructions of restoring the phone using the .ipsw you downloaded, run redsn0w
Once all is complete and cydia is on the phone
Open iTunes and restore from backup
Pretty soon all of your settings will be restored and with a sync everything will be back to normal including cydia and 4.3.1

Could someone please address these questions:
1. I've already updated my iPhone4 to 4.3.1 via iTunes. Is there anyway to apply the jailbreak and still keep all my apps and settings?
2. If I've already updated my iPhone4 to 4.3.1 via iTunes, can I skip the restore in the first part of this walkthrough and just run RedSn0w? Would this allow me to keep the apps and settings already on my iPhone4?
3. If so, when navigating to my current firmware version, do I need to point to the one iTunes downloaded or can I just point to the one I downloaded via this walkthrough and placed in the Pwnage folder on my desktop?
4. If I have to first restore to the downloaded firmware (placed in the Pwnage folder on my desktop) before running RedSn0w, I would imagine I'll wind up with a completely clean device. If so, after the jailbreak, could I then restore from my most recent backup to restore my apps and settings or would that wipe out my jailbreak?
Thanks!

For everyone getting no cellular signal, after the restore you need to start itunes. If it says anything unless for you to run the backup file just reconnect the iphone. After that, the carrier signal should already be available. Then, you do the JB.

VERY IMPORTANT, after restore and before jailbreak, connect to itunes and wait to get cellular signal from your carrier, otherwise you won't get cellular signal back

If I normally sync to my desktop, and want to jailbreak using my laptop but backup the device using my laptop, what info will I lose/keep? I guess I'm asking what is contained in a backup, and will this process completely wipe the device? Being hungover literally makes me dumber, i feel like i could of figured this out if I didn't have my bachelor party this past weekend.

My iPad 1 (3G) is already jailbroken with 4.2.1... I have NOT updated to 4.3 or 4.3.1... I followed the instructions and am back on my normal mode of operation, but the "About" screen still says "4.2.1(8C148)"... Do I need to update my device to 4.3.1 in iTunes before doing the jailbreak? This part is unclear (i.e. what version should your device be at when using these instructions?)
Cheers.

The instructions are pretty clear that don't update to 4.3.1 if you need an unlock. What if I don't need an unlock, can I just update 4.3.1 normally from iTunes and run redsn0w after that?

Well you'll still need the .IPSW file for RedSn0w to jailbreak it. You can either play it safe and like it says but if somwhow the firmware file you get from iTunes is different from the .IPSW you load in RedSn0w then I have no idea what may happen.

poliporro - April 4, 2011 at 6:52pm
off course you can update, then use redsn0w. Remember that you will use .ipsw fw.

Ok, to clarify for an idiot:
I'm at 4.2.1. I need to update to 4.3.1 in iTunes, then run this procedure. I just let iTunes update by itself, correct? Am I supposed to point iTunes to some specific FW file when it updates other than the one it downloads automatically.
When I tried to JB on 4.2.1, the FW file I downloaded via the instructions was not recognized / valid. I want to make sure I do it right this time.
thanks

If you perform a full back-up prior to jailbreaking and afterwards restore from that backup everything should be there. That's how it worked for me. Even all my sms messages synced back.

I am looking to j/b my phone, without having to restore, like i did with greenpoison. I am wondering if the redsnow, will j/b the phone, and just add cydia to it. I dont want to have to restore it.
is that possible, or will redsnow, wipe the phone back?
and if i restore a phone, wont that just wipe the j/b?

Slappy - April 4, 2011 at 11:39am
I'm not sure of the methods used with greenpoison but with this one you do need to restore and after the jailbreak Cydia will be there. After you restore from your back-up then everything should be the same as before. Also if you go to Cydia and download pkgbackup and backup with it you'll be able to restore all your Cydia apps, settings, and tweaks back to how they currently are. I've already got the Mobileme lockstyle working on my phone. Also if you have wifisync make sure it's unistalled from your computer first.

I have had this problem with multiple jailbreaks. If you restore your phone, make sure you activate it before you jailbreak. You don't need to restore it, just activate it. Then you should be good to go.

Yeah I found it after searching in a old thread. I had wifisync installed well this problem happens when it's installed on the computer. It needs to be uninstalled from the computer and the computer restarted. I was getting a 1611 error in iTunes after uninstalling wifisync. I went in and found a file on my Mac called etc/host I forget off hand exactly where but I deleted a "gs.apple.com" entry in the host file and saved it back to my Mac. I rebooted my Mac and it all worked fine from there on.

I read of people saying to re-install iTunes but I didn't want to risk that at all. If you open terminal and type in $ sudo nano /private/etc/hosts it should take you there but I don't think that worked for me so I ended up figuring out a different way to navigate there.

No problem. I'm still trying to remember the other way I navigated to that file but regardless we both seem to have it figured out. While I was searching for the other way I got there I came across some stuff which says that particular line redirects requests for certificates for authenticity that iTunes will make to the Saurik server. I guess that needs to be deleted so that the jailbreak can create a fresh one. I have no idea.
