Apple has released HomePod Software 27.2, adding Sound Glow lighting effects, support for Mac audio output, and new home theater options.

The update carries build number 24K122 and includes bug fixes and security updates.

Sound Glow makes the top of HomePod pulse and glow in sync with media playback, with matching animations for soundscapes. The feature supports the original HomePod mini, HomePod mini 2, and second-generation HomePod.

Mac users can set HomePod as the audio output for everything they do on their computer through a persistent AirPlay connection. A new Lock Controls option also lets users disable the touch controls on top of the speaker to prevent accidental pauses, skipped tracks, or volume changes.

The software also adds support for four-speaker surround sound with the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K. The setup requires matching front and rear pairs of HomePod mini 2 or second-generation HomePod speakers.

To check for the update, open the Home app, select Home Settings, then choose Software Update. HomePod can install the software automatically when automatic updates are enabled.
