Apple's biggest event of the year is just hours away. If the final flurry of reports is any indication, the 'Awe dropping' keynote on September 9 will be packed with new hardware. Apple is widely expected to show off a redesigned iPhone 17 lineup, a major update to the Apple Watch Ultra, and the first new AirPods Pro in three years — part of a fall push to keep users in its ecosystem as it works to catch up in AI.
Here's what could be announced...
A Redesigned iPhone 17 Lineup This year's iPhones are said to kick off a three-year redesign cycle, with significant changes across the lineup.
● iPhone 17 Air: Replacing the Plus model, the new Air could be just 5.5mm thin — Apple's slimmest iPhone yet. That thinness may come with trade-offs, including shorter battery life and a single rear camera. Apple is rumored to be preparing a dedicated battery case to help offset the smaller cell and may tap silicon-anode battery tech for a boost. The device is expected to feature a 6.6-inch ProMotion display, an A19 Pro chip with a 5-core GPU, 12GB of RAM, Apple's first in-house C1 modem, and a custom Wi-Fi chip.
● iPhone 17 Pro & Pro Max: The Pro models are set for their first major redesign in years. The back will reportedly feature a camera bar across the top and a cutout on the lower half for wireless charging. Apple is said to be moving away from titanium in favor of an aluminum frame to support a vapor chamber cooling system. That new thermal design could allow for a brighter display and longer battery life, with the Pro Max rumored to surpass 5000mAh. Other upgrades may include the A19 Pro chip with a 6-core GPU, 12GB of RAM, a tougher anti-reflective display, and support for reverse wireless charging. Major camera upgrades include a 48-megapixel telephoto lens, a new variable aperture system, and what's described as the "biggest-ever upgrade" to the selfie camera.
● iPhone 17: The base model isn't getting a full redesign but is expected to gain a 6.3-inch ProMotion display. It will likely run on the A19 chip with 8GB of RAM while continuing to use a Qualcomm modem.
● Accessories: Apple is said to be preparing a new 'TechWoven' case material to replace FineWoven and a premium crossbody strap.
New Wearables ● Apple Watch Ultra 3: Rumored to feature a larger display, a new S11 chip, 5G RedCap connectivity, and satellite messaging. ● Apple Watch Series 11 & SE: The Series 11 may get a brighter display and new colors. The SE is expected to receive a faster chip and updated screen. ● AirPods Pro 3: After three years, a new version is said to be coming. Reports point to a built-in heart-rate monitor, a smaller case with redesigned pairing controls, and possibly support for live conversation translation.
What Else Is in the Pipeline? ● AirTag 2: Rumored to feature a new wireless chip for better range and accuracy. ● M5 iPad Pro: Said to include a faster chip, a second portrait-side camera, and possibly ultra-thin bezels. ● Vision Pro: May get a small refresh with an M4 or M5 chip. ● Apple TV & HomePod mini: Expected to gain faster processors to support the revamped Siri in 2026, plus Apple's new in-house wireless chip.
